●    ABOUT PILATES    ●

"Contrology (Pilates) develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit."-Joseph H. Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that combines strength training and stretching to create a long, flexible body.  This is achieved by focusing on all the small muscles of the body that help hold the spine and bones in place.  People who do pilates are literally strengthening from the inside out.

Pilates was developed by Joseph H. Pilates, a German gymnast an pugilist, in the 1920's.  While working with sick and injured soldiers in the war Joe had an idea to use machinery to assist movement patterns and speed up recovery times.  This method was fist called 'Controlgoy' and after immigrating to New York City the term 'pilates' became popular among dancers, actors, and other fitness enthusiasts.
